A HERITAGE and PASSION for HORSES and HUNTING started this family owned and operated business!

Ranching cattle and sheep a great number of horses were required to do the work. The then RHODESIAN ARMY acquired a number of horses from us each year. As a courtesy the family was invited on hunting trips. This was the start of big game hunting in the Zambezi delta.

Leonard started shooting clay pigeons in 1978. Competing at international level he often got guys asking about hunting in South Africa. This made Leonard buy the first of many hunting ranches. He mainly hunted the ranch in the Kruger Park area specializing in Lions. This was and still is the best area for the Big Five in Africa. He soon got concessions in all the main hunting areas in South Africa in order to be able to supply to the clients needs.

The base of clients was from Europe and soon the American market followed. In the olden days word of mouth was the marketing tool Leonardia Safaris relied on. The storytelling of adventurous hunting in Africa next to campfires around the world made people dream of coming to Leonardia Safaris.

Israel, an ivory hunting legend from Mozambique was the company's main tracker and skinner. His wife Rosy, kept the pots cooking and the camp in tip top shape. Till today this families children are the base of our employees.
